The founders of Bored Ape Yacht Club present a novel NFT-based concept based on creator royalties

Creator royalties are seen as “the single most crucial thing that attracted them (creators and artists) into the ecosystem,” according to Wylie Aronow, co-founder of BAYC, which was co-founded by entrepreneurs Greg Solano and Kerem Atalay.

According to Cointelegraph, the founder of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) has considered the ongoing non-fungible token (NFT) creator royalties issue and revealed a proposed course of action they think is designed to address similar scenarios.

Founders Greg Solano and Kerem Atalay and co-founder Wylie Aronow of BAYC reportedly stated in a blog post dated November 8, 2022, that they believe creator royalties are “the single most critical thing that pulled them (creators and artists) into the ecosystem.” The article was published in reaction to OpenSea’s declaration on November 6, 2022, that it will follow other NFT markets in terms of royalty enforcement.

The BAYC creators proposed a methodology for NFT royalties based on information from Cointelegraph that uses “allow lists” programmed into an NFT collection’s smart contract. This approach would enable NFT trading between ordinary parties but would only let NFT trade for “marketplaces that respect royalties.” While transfers started by smart contracts are compared to an oracle of contracts that are related to royalties, it is thought that normal wallets would accept transfer requests. If a match is made, the request is authorized.

Additionally, Cointelegraph pointed out that this model is anticipated to support free wallet-to-wallet transfers, which BAYC’s founders stressed as being crucial to ensuring that one of the advantages of NFTs, asset ownership, is acknowledged by allowing owners to transfer assets between wallets without paying fees.

Simply add the few marketplaces that pay creator fees to start the allowlist. Done. Just figuring out what this governing body will look like is the real work. The founders of BAYC stressed that this is a problem that the NFT ecosystem can handle.
