According to local media, Vietnam’s expanding blockchain industry is struggling to find qualified professionals. Although there are many software engineers in the nation, just a fifth of them have blockchain knowledge, and companies are already searching outside the country for talent.
The fast development of Vietnam’s blockchain business is being hampered by a dearth of human resources, according to the English-language portal Bizhub. There are many competent software engineers in the Southeast Asian nation, but few of them possess the required credentials for distributed ledger technology.
According to Trinh Ngoc Duc, CEO of the business that created the video game Fight of the Ages, the shortages make recruiting challenging and Vietnam doesn’t have many training programmes to address the issue. He clarified as per the news source’s quote:
Numerous sectors, including banking, education, healthcare, logistics, and agriculture, are already experiencing a shortage of blockchain experts. With over 600 enterprises solely in the Gamefi sector, more over 50 different economic sectors in Vietnam have begun to use blockchain technology.
Kevin Tung Nguyen, CEO of Jobhopin, claims that existing talent can only fill between 15 and 20 percent of the demand at the same time. He recently experienced the loss of three employees who received offers of compensation that were three times more than their pay at his firm. According to him, there is a growing shortage of blockchain coders and heated competition to hire them.
According to Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung from the National Innovation Center, sourcing personnel has become a significant issue for many businesses in Vietnam’s blockchain sector, which has been expanding quickly. According to her, some businesses have begun looking for programmers in other nations, including the United Arab Emirates, India, South Korea, and Europe.
Dung thinks that one of the causes is the lack of blockchain education in Vietnamese institutions. She also believes that successful businesses and innovation hubs can increase international collaboration by introducing their own short-term courses for students.
Blockchain experts earn the highest salary, according to a poll of more than 1,000 IT professionals performed by the Vietnamworks recruitment site. However, Vietnam is not the only economy having trouble filling positions with blockchain skills. The number of job listings in the United States that included the phrase “blockchain” surged by about 400% in 2020–21, according to the professional social media network Linkedin.
