The majority of investors are searching for signs and patterns to help them enter and exit the market while striving to maximize earnings in the midst of the continuing crypto winter. The altcoin season for alternative currencies known as altcoins is one of the trends that is watched, with signs pointing to the possibility of this season.
According to statistics from Blockchain Center, as of September 19, 69% of the top 50 currencies had outperformed Bitcoin (BTC) in the previous 90 days, demonstrating that the “altcoin season” is currently in effect.
Notably, the Blockchain Center Altcoin Season Index states that an altcoin season is established when 75% of the top 50 currencies outperform Bitcoin over a three-month period (90 days). Stablecoins and cryptocurrencies with asset backing are not included in the analyzed coins.
Bitcoin shows falling returns

The highest performing cryptocurrency among the top 50 currencies is Chiliz (CHZ), the token powering the Socios.com fan voting network, at 154.6%, followed by LIDO (LDO), a liquid staking solution for Ethereum (ETH), at 222.4% in the past 90 days. Bitcoin has suffered losses of 6.6% elsewhere throughout the same frame.
It’s important to remember that the term “altcoin season” describes a time when Bitcoin is outperformed by altcoins in the cryptocurrency market. Due to things like market volatility, this does not, however, guarantee gains. As a result, the time of year presents a chance for cryptocurrency investors to diversify their holdings.
Generally speaking, altcoins do better when there is a bull market. Consequently, a sizable percentage of altcoins outperforming Bitcoin may point to a future uptick in price for both assets.
Prior altcoin cycles have also coincided with periods of great market dominance for Bitcoin. The majority of the time, the altcoin season is marked by investors shifting their money away from Bitcoin and into other assets.
The Bitcoin market dominance, which has been dropping recently as money moved to other items, may be an indication that an altcoin season is about to begin in this situation. According to data from CoinMarketCap, the dominance of Bitcoin is 39.3%.
Additionally, emphasis is put on choosing the right entrance and departure times as investors keep an eye out for potential signals of an altcoin season. Notably, a late entrance or exit typically spreads the risks associated with trading techniques.
While everything is going on, Bitcoin is still having trouble and has been consolidated around the $20,000 mark. Around the time of publication, the leading cryptocurrency was down nearly 7% over the previous day, trading at $18,600.
