Infura, a blockchain development tool, wants to introduce a decentralized infrastructure protocol early next year to allay worries that its platform is too centralized to support the decentralized applications of the Ethereum ecosystems (dapps).
A key step in Infura’s strategy to gradually decentralize its Web3 API services has been the introduction of a decentralized infrastructure protocol. This process also entails developing open-source code for the essential parts that power the tool and decentralizing the JSON RPC API that users use to connect to the Ethereum blockchain.
About 350,000 people may simply connect dapps to the Ethereum blockchain using Infura instead of running a full node, which uses more storage and is more expensive. But there is a cost associated with such accessibility. Users can safeguard sensitive activities by running a full node, however, Infura also logs IP addresses and wallet addresses from its users.
Infura will not abandon its more centralized offering, which uses a single supplier, ConsenSys, and cloud services hosted by Amazon, despite its quest for decentralization. Instead, the decentralized protocol will coexist with the business’s current products.
Eleazar Galano, a co-founder of Infura, claims that the decentralized protocol of Infura will complement its more centralized solutions to provide the optimum user experience.
According to Galano, we’re concentrating on decentralizing the lower-level infrastructure layer underneath that to increase interoperability amongst operators who handle this sort of traffic. “There are some aspects of the consumer experience that you simply cannot decentralize. Galano claims that Infura will begin the process of decentralization by launching an open-source project that will encourage collaborations between Infura and the larger DeFi community in order to open source many of the essential parts that power Infura.
Galana stated, “We’re putting out a call for early partners who wish to cooperate with us in setting up this decentralized infrastructure. The level of quality that customers anticipate from a node provider service like Infura is what we want to deliver.
Starting on Friday, qualified infrastructure providers can sign up for an early access program to take part in the new protocol.
