Ether.Fi has launched its governance token, ETHFI, as part of its initiative to decentralize its liquid staking protocol. The token, trading between $3 and $3.50 on its first day, has quickly reached a market capitalization of over $362 million.
Airdrop Distribution and Eligibility
The airdrop distribution for ETHFI went live Monday morning, allowing eligible users to claim their tokens until June 18, 2024. Eligibility criteria included being a staker on a Binance Launchpad round, an Ether.Fi solo staker, or holding eETH, Ether.Fi’s flagship token that provides rewards from both staking ETH on Ethereum and restaking through EigenLayer.
Market Performance and Valuation
Data from CoinGecko reveals that ETHFI has a fully diluted valuation of $3.4 billion. This valuation places ETHFI below the Solana memecoin WIF but above competitors like Lido and dYdX. The total supply of ETHFI stands at 1 billion tokens, with 6% allocated to the first season of the airdrop distribution and 2% for participants in the Binance Launchpad round.
Notable Transactions and Allocations
Significant transactions have already taken place, including a deposit of 120,000 ETH (approximately $420.72 million) by an address identified as belonging to Justin Sun. As a result, Sun’s wallet is eligible to claim over 3.45 million ETHFI tokens. However, to ensure fairness and long-term stability, a portion of these tokens will be vested.
In total, 23.26% of the ETHFI supply is earmarked for core contributors, 27.24% for the DAO treasury, and 32.5% will be vested over a two-year period for investors. This structured allocation aims to promote sustained growth and stability within the Ether.Fi community.
Smooth Airdrop Execution
EtherFi’s co-founder and Chief Growth Officer, Rok Kopp, reported a smooth execution of the airdrop. Kopp stated that the airdrop site was reliable, enabling users to claim their tokens without any significant issues.
Protocol and Market Integration
At the time of writing, users have locked $2.876 billion worth of crypto assets into Ether.Fi’s smart contracts, as reported by DefiLlama. This significant lock-in value reflects strong market integration and user confidence in the Ether.Fi protocol.
Ether.Fi’s introduction of the ETHFI token marks a significant milestone in the decentralized finance space, particularly in the realm of liquid staking. The successful airdrop and rapid market cap growth underscore the potential impact of this governance token on the broader crypto ecosystem.
