The current total value of $20.1 billion is just 10% more than the same amount from 2021 ($18 billion).

Putting aside the criminal investigations against failing cryptocurrency businesses like FTX, Celsius, Three Arrows Capital, Terraform Labs, and others, Cointelegraph stated that 2022 set the record for unlawful on-chain transactions.

According to a Chainalysis analysis dated January 12, which Cointelegraph cites, the total bitcoin value received by unauthorized addresses last year was $20.1 billion.

The experts keep finding new addresses connected to illegal activity, which causes the measure of unlawful transaction volume to increase over time, according to Cointelegraph, thus the numbers aren’t final.

The money kept in the accounts of the aforementioned defunct firms, which are presently the focus of investigations in various jurisdictions across the world, as well as money earned through non-crypto crimes like drug trafficking are also excluded, Cointelegraph noted.

The current total value of $20.1 billion is just 10% more than the same amount from 2021 ($18 billion). Nevertheless, it still establishes a record and significantly (by 60%) exceeds the $8 billion barrier for 2020, according to Cointelegraph.

Due to scale restrictions, the transaction volumes associated with penalties rose so quickly that they could not even be shown on the graphs. The 10% million benchmarks for this growth are set by analysis.
