Prior to the stroke of midnight on November 1, 2022, Deribit exchange’s hot wallet was hacked, claims Cointelegraph.
According to Cointelegraph, Deribit, a cryptocurrency derivatives market, has reportedly blocked withdrawals after suffering a $28 million hot wallet attack.
Deribit exchange’s hot wallet was infiltrated before November 1 at midnight, 2022, as announced by the company on Twitter, according to Cointelegraph.
Client assets, Fireblocks, and any addresses used for cold storage are unaffected. To lessen the effect of these kinds of incidents, it is our policy to retain 99% of our users’ assets in cold storage, according to the exchange.

According to information provided to Cointelegraph, Deribit had to halt withdrawals from custodians Copper Clearloop and Cobo due to security checks until the exchange was entirely confident in the security following the incident. Deposits that have already been submitted will still be processed and paid to accounts once the necessary amount of confirmations has been received, the company noted.
The exchange is anticipated to make up for the loss as well, thus it is predicted that the hack will not have an impact on Deribit’s insurance fund. The firm plans to begin withdrawals as soon as possible and is apparently taking all necessary security precautions, according to a representative for Deribit. According to reports, the platform has also begun work on a thorough incident assessment to provide further details about the vulnerability that could have been the root of the problem. According to the spokesman, the breach was the first time since Deribit’s introduction that the firm has been subjected to such an assault and damages.
Furthermore, Deribit was established in 2016 and is regarded as one of the biggest cryptocurrency derivatives exchanges in the world since it enables users to trade cryptocurrency futures and options, according to Cointelegraph. According to data given by CoinGecko at the time the article was written, Deribit’s daily trading volume was $280 million.
