Global asset management BlackRock has introduced a new exchange-traded fund (ETF) to introduce European clients to the blockchain sector, while Cointelegraph has heard rumors of an ETF based in the Metaverse.

The recently introduced blockchain ETF is called as the iShares Blockchain Technology UCITS ETF, according to Cointelegraph. According to BlackRock, 25% of its assets are businesses that assist the blockchain industry, while the remaining 75% are blockchain enterprises like miners and exchanges.

Out of a total of 50 interests, 35 are reportedly worldwide firms, with the remaining holdings consisting only of derivatives and fiat money. BlackRock is aiming to enter the digital assets market through BLKC, with the most recent move being the August launch of a private spot Bitcoin trust.

Omar Moufti, product strategist for thematic and sector ETFs at BlackRock, indicated that the ETF would provide clients the chance to interact with international platforms in order to promote the blockchain ecosystem, based on information provided to Cointelegraph through a September article from Finextra.

As use cases grow in breadth, size, and complexity, “we anticipate that digital assets and blockchain technology will become increasingly important for our clients,” Moufti continued.

Additionally, according to Cointelegraph, the fund’s top five holdings include Coinbase (13.20 percent), USD Cash (13 percent), the fintech company Block (11.4 percent), the cryptocurrency mining companies Marathon Digital Holdings (11.13 percent), and Riot Blockchain (10.50 percent). 23 IT firms, 6 financial institutions, 1 industrial company, and 1 communications company make up the remaining assets. Reid Menge, co-portfolio manager at BlackRock Technology Opportunities Fund, provided data for the Metaverse ETF.

Coinbase announced in August that it had partnered with BlackRock, and it appeared that the relationship with BLKC was paying off. Additionally, the collaboration gives institutional investors the chance to use Coinbase Prime to access cryptocurrencies.
